The Demographics

What is the Foundation
How can you help?

The number of residents in Muskoka and East Parry Sound over 65 years of age is projected to increase by 62% over the next ten years, we have no choice but to improve services aimed at an ageing population.

Those between 35 and 64 years of age are estimated to increase by 50%.

There will be:

  • Increased pressure to provide more preventative medical services and general surgery.
  • Increased need for oncology and cardiac care.
  • Improved long-term care facilities and support.
  • Greater need for mental health and social services.

Youth (ages 0 to 14) and the young adult population (ages 15 to 34) are projected to increase by 16% and 22% respectively. This will require:

  • More emphasis on prenatal education and nutritional information.
  • Greater need for obstetrics and midwifery.
  • Increased need for social services such mental health, speech and auditory services.
  • More services aimed at families (disease prevention, sexual health, maternal/infant care, etc.).
